Heart of Every Ski-Doo Snowmobile

Rotax Engines have been the heart of Ski-Doo snowmobiles since 1963. And while most snowmobilers think of two-strokes when it comes to Rotax, the subsidiary is reknown around the world for its four-strokes. In addition to Ski-Doo snowmobiles, high performance Rotax four-stroke engines power sea-Doo watercraft and sports boats, Can-Am ATVs and roadsters, BMW* motorcycles, Aprilia* motorcycles and scooters, Buell* motorcycles, even ultralight aircraft.

E-TEC ENGINES

When it comes to nimble performance and handling, there's no substitute for light weight. That's why Rotax has been the leader in advanced two-stroke technology for snowmobiles. SDI was the industry's first cleaner two-stroke in 2002, followed by PowerT.E.K.

For the 2009 model year, we changed the industry with E-TEC technology in the form of the E-TEC 600 H.O. While the other guys still haven't caught up – after eight years – we're moving forward again with the E-TEC 800R. We've now applied E-TEC technology to our 800R -with incredible fuel and oil economy, virtually no smoke and smell, easy throttle pull and more.

While E-TEC technology is new to Ski-Doo snowmobiles, it is not new to BRP. It has been proven in BRP´s Evinrude outboards since 2003, and has won numerous awards.

Besides power-to-weight, fuel economy, oil economy and low emissions, there are other reasons to love owning sleds with Rotax E-TEC engines.

This is the engine that started it all in the 2009 model year. Since then, it not only has become the best-selling 600cc engine in the industry, but it is the standard that all other engines, of any kind, are judged against. So much so that it has piled up award after award.

Why? It delivers amazing 11,3 l/km fuel economy, ultra low oil consumption, virtually no two-stroke smoke and smell and more – while remaining very lightweight.

BRP is no stranger to four-stroke technology – BRP-Rotax is known all over the world for exceptional four-strokes, from watercraft to superbikes. And now, they've worked their magic to produce four-stroke snowmobile engines for 2009 Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

 

Rotax 1200 4-TEC

ROTAX 1200 4-TEC - Not Just Better, the Best

It wasn't enough for BRP and Rotax engineers to build a better four-stroke for ski-Doo snowmobiles – it had to be the best. They accomplished their goals, with class-leading torgue, the widest powerband, light weight and lowest emissions. Plus the new Rotax 1200 4-TEC has a distinctive performance sound unlike anything else.

The Rotax 1200 4-TEC engine (130hp) is particularly designed for snowmobiles. Its key features include light weight, good cold starting properties, low emissions, wide power band and smooth running of the engine. The motor is equipped with an electronic fuel injection system and its power band is wider than that of our competitors corresponding models. There is plenty of torque throughout the entire power band (119Nm / 7500 rpm), thanks to which the engine delivers good acceleration. The Rotax 1200 4-TEC is ideal for both touring and sporty trail riding. The NER value indicating the EPA emissions of the engine is zero.
